June 5, 2020 – Build a Dream, a non-profit that empowers young women to explore careers where females are under-represented, is excited to announce that their new office will be located within Valiant TMS corporate headquarters in Windsor, Ontario.
In February 2020, Valiant TMS, a global company that delivers intelligent automation solutions, welcomed The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Labour to their robotics lab where the Minister announced a $728,000 investment in Build a Dream through the Skilled Trades Awareness and Readiness program, to encourage more young women to explore careers in the skilled trades and support them in their journey.
Valiant TMS is a regular exhibitor at Build a Dream career discovery expos, interactive events where young women and their parents hear from professional women in under-represented careers and talk to companies about the many possible career choices available. With diversity and inclusion as part of their corporate culture, and with several female co-op students and apprentices on staff who found their career paths by first attending a Build a Dream event, offering vacant office space to the non-profit was a natural fit.
“Sponsoring young talent through programs like Build a Dream allows us to invest in our future. By focusing on the good jobs in skilled trades in our community we can help young women leverage innovation and technology to become leaders in the industry,” says Pete Naysmith, Director, Service and Spare Parts, Valiant TMS.
Build a Dream President & Founder, Nour Hachem-Fawaz was elated when the opportunity was presented. “It is an amazing feeling to be able to align with an industry leader that believes in our work so much that they are willing to house our organization for two years. This sends a huge message not just to young women (who do not often see themselves represented in careers like skilled trades), but to industry as a whole.”
Industry plays a large role in the work the non-profit does, and Build a Dream has worked collaboratively and in partnership to scale the organization across Canada. And while the pandemic currently restricts how Build a Dream can access their new space to execute the nationwide planning, the non-profit looks forward to moving in properly over the next few weeks.
“This move represents another milestone for our organization,” says Hachem-Fawaz. “The new space will accommodate our growing team and allow us to expand the valuable tools and resources that we provide to empower young women, assist families with career planning, provide educators with tools, and help industry create inclusive workplaces.”
