#HerPower Awards 2025: Application guidelines 

Through Build a Dream’s commitment to supporting women in male-dominated sectors, our #HerPower programs are exclusively available to young girls and women pursuing careers in STEAM, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, leadership, and emergency response.

HOW TO ENTER: Complete the #HerPower Awards form on Build a Dream’s website. 

WHO CAN ENTER: Current post-secondary students and grade 12 students who have received confirmation of enrollment in post-secondary studies or training. Eligible applicants must identify as a woman or non-binary person and be pursuing a career in the skilled trades, STEAM, emergency response, entrepreneurship, and/or leadership 

DEADLINE TO APPLY: October 22nd, 2024 – May 31st, 2025 

WHAT DO YOU GET: Build a Dream in partnership with Enbridge is giving away $1,000 scholarships and a complimentary 30-minute career coaching session with our Career Support Specialists to five students. Award recipients will be announced by June 30th, 2025 

REQUIREMENTS:  

Only complete applications submitted through the application form will be reviewed. 

All submitted materials become the property of Build a Dream. 

Final decision on all awards rest with Enbridge. Access to its decisions is restricted.  

SELECTION PROCESS: Selection will be based on a review of the information provided in this application. 

 

AWARDS DESCRIPTIONS: 

Skilled Trades Award  

The Skilled Trades Award is designed to support women pursuing careers in skilled trades, including but not limited to construction, automobility, forestry, agriculture, and service sectors.  

To Apply:  

  • Applicant must identify as a woman and must possess a secondary school diploma (or equivalent); 
  • Be registered in a Skilled Trades Program as a full-time student in an accredited college (or authorized training facility) with a start date of no later than January 2026. 
  • Complete and submit the #HerPower Application Package by Spring 2025; applicants will be asked to share brief reflections about their experiences, motivations, and barriers associated with their decision in pursuing careers in historically male-dominated fields.  
  • Your official post-secondary acceptance letter to a skilled trades program at an accredited college in Canada (or equivalent). 

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Award  

The STEAM Award is designed to empower and offer support for women beginning or advancing their careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Mathematics. 

To Apply:  

  • Applicant must identify as a woman and must possess a secondary school diploma (or equivalent); 
  • Be registered in a STEAM Program as a full-time student in an accredited college or university with a start date of no later than the January 2026. 
  • Complete and submit the #HerPower Application Package by Spring 2025; applicants will be asked to share brief reflections about their experiences, motivations, and barriers associated with their decision in pursuing careers in historically male-dominated fields.  
  • Your official post-secondary acceptance letter to a STEAM program at an accredited college or university in Canada. 

Women in Emergency Response Services Award 

Intended to support women pursuing careers in the Emergency Response sector, such as police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders. 

To Apply:  

  • Applicant must identify as a woman and must possess a secondary school diploma (or equivalent); 
  • Be registered in an emergency response related program as a full-time student in an accredited college or university with a start date of no later than the January 2026 term; 
  • Complete and submit the #HerPower Application Package by Spring 2025; applicants will be asked to share brief reflections about their experiences, motivations, and barriers associated with their decision in pursuing careers in historically male-dominated fields.  
  • Your official post-secondary acceptance letter to an emergency response related program at an accredited college or university in Canada (or equivalent). 

HerLeadership Award  

Recognizing women in leadership roles who have demonstrated significant career growth while empowering and uplifting other women within their organization or community. 

To Apply:  

  • Complete and submit the #HerPower Application Package by Spring 2025; applicants will be asked to write a brief reflection of their leadership styles and experiences. 
  • Two support letters from colleagues/peers that illustrates how you have exemplified leadership skills. These letters must be emailed to hussein@webuildadream.com.  

Women in Entrepreneurship Award 

Aimed at supporting women on their journey to entrepreneurship through the creation and development of their own business ventures. 

To Apply:  

  • Applicant must identify as a woman and must have launched a business (with proof of business registration) on or before the final day of application submissions on May 31st, 2025. 
  • Complete and submit the #HerPower Application Package by Spring 2025; applicants will be asked to share a brief reflection about why they chose this business, the need for this business, and how such need is fulfilled.

Terms and Conditions: 
 
By applying for a #HerPower Award, you are agreeing to and acknowledging the following terms:  
 
1) All applicants are subject to verification at the request of Build a Dream. Failure to comply with such requests will result in the disqualification of application. 
2) Incomplete or fraudulent entries will be rejected. 
3) All decisions, with respect to all aspects of the contest, including but not limited to the eligibility or disqualification of entrants, are final and not subject to appeal. 
4) Applicants agree to Build a Dream storing, sharing and using personal information submitted for the purpose of program administration. 
5) If selected as a winner, the application consents to Build a Dream publishing, broadcasting, or promoting the contest using the entrant’s information, specifically, applicant first name, city, and program of study/field. 
6) Applicants may withdraw from the contest at any time by sending an email to hussein@webuildadream.com requesting that the entry be withdrawn.
