Trades Campus

Trades Campus

To ensure women are supported at every stage, Build a Dream has developed Trades Campus, a supportive, engaging, interactive online learning portal designed to address the specific needs of under-represented groups in skilled trades.

Each of the campus’ three academies focuses on the group’s unique needs and equips them with mentorship/role models, support, and much-needed resources.

Academy 1: Students, Pre-Apprentices, and/or Trades as a Second Career

This 10-week virtual academy will introduce women in tech classes, youth apprenticeship, or pre-apprenticeship programs (as well as women pursuing trades as a second career) to the benefit and barriers often associated with skilled trades.

Participants will learn:

  • What resources and courses are available
  • How to build confidence and enhance soft skills
  • How to handle challenges

Overall, the academy focuses on planning, sharing goals, and getting ready for the next steps.

Dates: Tuesdays (Jan 11, 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 15, 22, Mar 1, 8, 22)
Time: 5:30 – 6:00 PM EST

Academy 2: Apprentices and Journeypersons

This 10-week virtual academy will focus on women who are already in the trades. Learn about resources available, skills required to advance, and how to build your network.

Participants will:

  • Share goals & current challenges
  • Discuss opportunities for advancement
  • Work on financial literacy & future plans

Overall, the academy focuses on networking, sharing goals, and planning future moves.

Academy 3: Employers or Industry Representatives

How do you increase applicants, improve apprenticeship completion rates, minimize loss, and build true resilience for your workforce? This 4-week academy focuses on the 4 stages of the talent pipeline: attraction, recruitment, retention, & advancement.
