Career Discovery Expos

Interested in learning more about the career opportunities available to women & girls?

#DreamBig and attend a Build a Dream Career Discovery Expo!

Designed to inspire and inform young women in grades 7-12 about career opportunities in skilled trades, STEAM, emergency response, and entrepreneurship pathways, Build a Dream’s Career Discovery Expos highlight females in these industries, spotlight jobs in these fields, and inspires young girls to #DreamBIG. They will be encouraged and empowered as they hear from women already working in rewarding and lucrative careers, sometimes in jobs and industries that they may never have heard of!

Career Discovery Expos are traditionally offered as an in-person event for female students and their parents/guardians to attend after school. Build a Dream successfully pivoted during the pandemic to offering these events virtually for students and parents/guardians to participate from the comfort of their own homes.

We are thrilled to announce that for the 2022-2023 academic year, Career Discovery Expos will be offered under both models!

In-person Career Discovery Expos are planned and tailored for the geographical regions of the requesting school boards.

At these events you can expect:

  • a formal presentation with meaningful and engaging discussions between women on our “Dream Maker Panel”
  • interactive hands-on activities that allow girls to explore different careers
  • exhibitor booths showcasing career opportunities for women in the skilled trades, STEAM, emergency response, and entrepreneurship pathways
  • opportunities to discuss and engage with women in these industries
  • swag and giveaways for attendees

To request an in-person event for your school board, contact natalie@webuildadream.com for more information.

** Please note that our fall events calendar is FULLY BOOKED and we are now reserving dates for in-person Career Discovery Expos for winter/spring 2023. Registration is still available for our Fall semester virtual Career Discovery Expos (details below).**

Virtual Career Discovery Expos are hosted once per month in the evenings from 6:00pm – 8:30pm through our online web platform.

At each virtual event you can expect three main parts to the evening:

Pathway Panel

Kick off the night with a short presentation from your selected OYAP coordinator/guidance counsellor to highlight the many opportunities available for career exploration in high school and how students can participate!

Dream Maker Panel

Build a Dream recruits and presents a variety of speakers who share career advice and insight on their jobs and industries. The panel also includes young people in the early stages of their trades career, sharing information on their personal experience with the apprenticeship program.

Industry Secrets

Build a Dream provides area employers and organizations who speak to getting “job-ready”, what companies are looking for in new hires, and how to stand out in the application and interview process.

There will also be:

  • Dedicated time for Q&A
  • Multiple opportunities for attendees to win prizes including a Kahoot! game break
  • Resource library with downloadable content including our useful #DreamBig Career Guide

School boards can purchase a board-wide membership so that all members (students, parents/guardians, teachers, etc.) can participate in as many of the events as they wish from the comfort of their own homes.

To purchase a membership for your school board, contact natalie@webuildadream.com for more information.
