As Executive Director of Women in Nuclear Canada, Cheryl was responsible for promoting women’s contributions in the nuclear industry, advocating for female advancement and promoting science and skilled trades careers to young women. Early retirement allowed her to travel the world, spend time with family and friends, and volunteer with not-for-profits promoting women and children in the Kincardine area.
Lisa Petronski, First Line Manager – Construction, Bruce Power
Skilled trades run in Lisa’s family, however she is the only female to choose this career path. Lisa became a construction boilermaker after completing her apprenticeship and achieving Red Seal certification. After spending time in the nuclear industry, she pursued a career in Construction Management. Lisa enjoys travelling and is a proud mother to an independent 15-year-old daughter.
Mary Jane Bushell, President & CEO, Larsen & Shaw Ltd.
Mary Jane has over 30 years experience in the manufacturing industry. Under her leadership Larsen & Shaw Ltd established formal in-house training programs while implementing state-of-the-art automation technology. She is an advocate for enhanced skills training within the education system. A staunch supporter of manufacturing, Mary Jane has a personal passion to attract qualified, local talent to her industry.
Hillary Newkirk, Rope Access Technician Director, OnRope Equipment Inc.
Hillary uses harnesses and ropes to climb and rappel buildings, bridges, towers, dams, factories and more. She even worked on the CN Tower. In 2018, with no prior business experience, she started her own company selling the equipment she uses in the field to fire departments, police, military and the construction industry.
Alison Fernandes, Manager, Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries
After many years of working in social services, the Ryerson University grad decided to change careers and joined her family’s business in the Nuclear, Defence and Aerospace Industries. After another brief career change, Alison began working for the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries, Bruce Power and Bruce County as the Manager, Nuclear Economic Development & Innovation.
Terri Allen, EPS Emergency Protective Services – Fire, Bruce Power
From on-duty shift work to Fire and First-Aid Trainer, Terri has worked in the Emergency Protective Services industry for over 11 years. She is currently responsible for preparing and executing the scenario of all fire drills, occupant evacuation of on-site buildings and also preparing radiologically contaminated casualty drills in the emergency rooms at local hospitals.
